Listen to stories of loss, grief and death. This is also your own quiet corner, where you can safely share the things you have never said out loud.
“I’ve been trying so hard, but my dreams still feel so far out of reach.”
“Sometimes I feel down and can’t even explain why. Then one day it hits me—we haven’t really caught up on each other’s lives in ages.”
“Everyone around me seems to know where they’re going. I feel like I’m the only one still going round in circles at the same place.”
Some losses go unseen. Some words stay with us, waiting to be spoken. From 2 October to 21 November 2026, the Treehole Phone Booth, part of The Harbour by Alongside, comes to The Mills, offering a space for the grief and feelings we find hard to put into words.
Pick up the receiver and let Serrini’s voice guide you. Listen to her experiences of grief and loss, alongside authentic stories from strangers about life, goodbyes and the people they miss. You may hear something that feels resonant to your own experience.
You are welcome simply to listen. If you wish, you can also leave your own story anonymously and choose to have it saved and shared with the next person who visits. For some things that are hard to say out loud, you may put your thoughts on a postcard and place it in the Grief Mailbox. Leave a return address to receive a handwritten reply from the Alongside team.
Every story deserves to be heard. No one has to carry their grief alone. During your visit to The Mills, take a little time to listen, and make room for your own feelings too.
